Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 yellow onion , diced
- 2 cloves garlic , minced
- 15 ounces tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
Optional extras depending on your tastes
- brown sugar
- chilis
- liquid smoke
- cumin>
- fennel
Method
- Add the oil and onions to a large pot on medium heat and cook until the onions are softened (~4 mins), stirring occasionally.
- Add the rest of the ingredients and stir well.
- Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes until the sauce has thickened.
- Taste test and adjust spiciness or flavor. Cook a further 5 to 10 mins.
- Use straight away or refrigerate until next time you need it.
